Technological developments have transformed the nature of contemporary wars and shaped a new pattern of conflicts in which information, communication networks, precision weapons, drones, and intelligent systems play an increasingly significant role in determining the course and outcomes of war. This paper aims to explain the transition of contemporary wars toward technology-based warfare by examining changes in the speed of operations, intensity of fire, command and control methods, targeting of critical infrastructure, and the cognitive and informational dimensions of conflicts. Its main argument is that the integration of modern technologies with intelligence and operational capabilities has enabled a rapid increase in the intensity of engagement and the expansion of its destructive effects, altering the relationship among time, firepower, and the strategic consequences of war.
