Background and Objective: Since commanding instructors are subject to stress both as military personnel and due to the inherently demanding nature of instruction, they have a high potential for experiencing job burnout. The objective of the present study is to determine the level of job burnout among commanding instructors at a military university and to propose strategies for its reduction.
Method: This research is descriptive-analytical in nature, conducted quantitatively through a field study. The statistical population consists of commanding instructors at a military university. The sample size was one hundred individuals, selected through simple random sampling. Research tools included the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the MHI (Mental Health Inventory) questionnaire for assessing psychological well-being, and a researcher-made questionnaire for demographic and organizational factors.
Findings: After data collection and analysis, it was concluded that job burnout exists within the studied statistical population; however, it is not widespread. Furthermore, personal issues did not significantly contribute to this burnout, which was primarily influenced by organizational factors. Among the most important organizational factors affecting job burnout were ambiguity in job descriptions and livelihood problems. Additionally, factors such as support from higher-ranking commanders, consistent treatment by commanders, students' enthusiasm for military activities, and attention to the psychological conditions of the command role were identified as effective in reducing job burnout.
Conclusion: Based on the above results, suggestions have been proposed to provide appropriate strategies for reducing job burnout among commanding instructors.
